Finding Yourself

Cyrus the king of Persia sent out an edict that the people who were taken captive during the Babylonian reign should return and build a house to the Lord their God. Yet certain priest and some of the descendants of Solomon’s servants (V.59) were hindered because they had lost their identity during their time of captivity. They found themselves unable to function in their purpose because they couldn’t prove who they are. When we are imprisoned to thoughts, habits or individuals we loose part of ourselves. Often we don’t realize how much we have lost of ourselves until we come out of our situations. Bondage robs us of more than time it takes custody of our identity and confines our purpose. Many find themselves free of bondage and still bereft of purpose and direction. Repression suppresses our uniqueness leading to misplaced feelings and lack of focus. Though we have been set free from sin are we still slaves to it or are we free indeed (John 8:34-36). In order to build the kingdom of God we have to know who we are and whose we are. If problems, habits or peoples expectations have robbed you of who you are, find yourself in Christ, identify with Him and receive God in His name. You will never be lost again.
